About the title
Early 1980s. Vladimir, a television salesman, is arrested for smuggling. He's sentenced to ten years in a labor camp in Karaganda. His beloved wife Elena is also taken away as an accomplice. Behind bars, Vladimir seeks a way to join a criminal gang that holds power and privileges there. But even after leaving the camp, he can't break away from crime: his criminal "career" continues far away in New York. Years later, Vladimir meets his old prison friend Alexei and faces a choice — who is he really loyal to?
