About the title
Jeanne Vaubernier is a young working-class woman, hungry for culture and pleasure, who uses her intellect and charm to climb the social ladder. She meets King Louis XV and soon becomes his favorite companion. Thanks to their relationship, the king rediscovers a taste for life that had faded over his many years of reign. Unaware of her status as a courtesan, the king invites Jeanne to the palace at Versailles, where her arrival outrages the court. Gradually, Jeanne becomes one of the most influential women in France, the king's official favorite, but those close to him dislike her influence and weave cunning intrigues against du Barry.
