Victorian England, 1880. Medical school graduate Mortimer Granville takes a job at the office of Dr. Dalrymple, renowned throughout London for his unique method of treating "hysteria" — female overexcitement — through intimate massage. The popularity of Dalrymple's "manual" method grows at an astronomical rate, and keeping up with the flood of suffering patients becomes increasingly difficult.
