About the title
Joseph Mersault, his wife Anne, and their daughter Renee live in the wilderness, making a living by trapping animals and struggling to make ends meet. The problem is that they believe a roaming wolf is stealing their catch from the traps. Determined to catch the predator red-handed, Joseph goes out hunting. Anne and Renee are left anxiously waiting for the return of husband and father. However, he doesn't come back, but a couple of days later they find a severely wounded man near the house. Anne doesn't understand how these events are connected, but the anxiety in her heart begins to grow...
