About the title
The early 20th century. The Ottoman Empire is living out its final days. Young slave girl Safiye ends up in the lavish palace of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. She dreams of becoming the sultan's favorite and bearing him an heir. In the harem, Safiye meets the Black eunuch Nadir. The mutual attraction between the eunuch and the concubine grows into a passionate love that overcomes both class barriers and physical obstacles.
