About the series

This documentary tells the story of a bear rescue center in the Tver region and the Pazhetnov family who work there. Gordon Buchanan made several trips to the village of Bubonitsy in the Tver region, home to the bear rescue center of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. In the film he made, we follow the fate of three pairs of orphaned bear cubs, hand-reared and returned to the wild by the staff of the center founded by biologist Valentin Pazhetnov. All the cubs, not yet used to humans, get a chance to begin an independent life in the forests of the Tver region. While working on the film, Buchanan helped feed the cubs a special milk formula, washed them, and says he even tried to teach them to climb trees.
