About the title
"There is now no practical obstacle whatever to the creation of an efficient index to all human knowledge, ideas and achievements, to the creation, that is, of a complete planetary memory for all mankind." — H.G. Wells. It was he who came up with the idea of how we could transform the organization of the world's knowledge. He called it the "World Brain." According to Wells, the "World Brain" should contain everything that has been studied and learned, and everything that is currently in the process of being studied and learned. The idea was daring, and the ability to bring it to life was dazzling. Google's book-scanning project is indeed the most promising plan for creating a world brain ever devised. And this is not a distant dream, not fantasy — it is simply a statement of the current state of affairs.
