About the title
Frank Adler lives in a coastal town in Florida and is raising his extraordinarily gifted niece Mary alone. But his plans for a calm school life for the girl collapse when Frank's formidable mother, Evelyn, learns of the child's mathematical abilities. The grandmother has her own vision for her granddaughter's future, and for its sake she is even willing to separate Mary from Frank.
