About the title
During the day, Lera studies humanity and its needs through sociological surveys, part of her practical training at the institute; at night, she dances at a club to earn money and support herself and her mother. The people she meets are just as unhappy as her own family. Her father recently left for another woman but keeps coming back, unable to accept his own choice. He makes life unbearable for those close to him. Her mother is painfully struggling with the breakup and sleeps constantly, ignoring reality. Lera works at the club under the stage name Gerda. She doesn't know how to go on living, where to go or why, and above all, how to make life better. The unchanging, unhappy adult world that Lera watches day and night seems hopeless.
