About the title
After her mother's death, Marla can't find peace and feels completely disoriented in time and space. Worse still, she has started experiencing memory gaps — for example, she cannot recall the details of her last meeting with her mother. Pangs of conscience lead Marla to suspect that she herself sent to the other world the woman who never showed her any motherly warmth. So the heroine drifts from place to place, finding temporary refuge now in a brothel, now in the apartment of a stoner friend, trying to escape not so much from the police as from herself.
