About the title
When Corrine Dollanganger's beloved husband suddenly dies, hard times begin for her and her four children. Left penniless, jobless, and unsure what to do, she is forced by circumstance to return to the home of her parents, the Foxworths — wealthy but cruel and hypocritical people.
