About the series
Every year, people from all over the world arrive in glittering Hong Kong to make money and move a step closer to their dreams. Some are trying to find themselves, some want to change, some want to become better people. Among the arrivals chasing a good life unfolds the story of American women going through a difficult period in their lives. Mercy, a Korean-American who recently graduated from Columbia University, intends to shed the weight of her past and start with a clean slate, but instead finds herself at the center of a scandal. Hilary, a wealthy English housewife, wants to save her marriage by having a baby, but discovers she's infertile. Margaret, a mother of three, works as an architect and is deeply anxious about her new skyscraper project. The lives of all these women unexpectedly intersect when Margaret's youngest son disappears. The series is based on Janice Y. K. Lee's 2016 novel "The Expatriates."
