About the title
Kurganov and Tokarev are debt collectors working with banks; their job is to squeeze money out of debtors by any means, including the dirtiest and even cruelest methods. Tokarev has already nearly lost his humanity in this line of work, but Kurganov occasionally feels a stirring of compassion. Their work is dangerous and mishaps happen, but one day everything goes completely off plan: in a house they visit on the bank's orders, they commit a murder. The owner turns out to be no simple man, and a vengeful one — and Kurganov becomes his hostage. Now a debt is demanded from him too: to bring back his murdered wife.
