About the title
In the future, people have been stripped of the ability to express emotion. It is the price humanity pays for eliminating war from its life. Now books, art, and music are outlawed, and any feeling is a crime punishable by death. Government agent John Preston fights those who break the rules. One day he forgets to take his regular dose of the drug, and undergoes a spiritual transformation that brings him into conflict not only with the regime, but with himself.
