May 2020, and the pandemic is gathering pace in the US. In the quiet provincial town of Eddington, where a quarantine and mask mandate have been imposed, a confrontation is brewing between Seville County Sheriff Joe Cross and the town's mayor, Ted Garcia, who is planning to run for re-election and is plotting a grand project — building a large-scale artificial-intelligence data center. Unwilling to accept the plans of the domineering official, Cross decides to challenge him and puts forward his own candidacy for mayor, unaware of the unpredictable consequences his decision will bring.
