About the title
The film takes place in the Belgian city of Liège in the mid-20th century. A fifty-year-old man takes on an unusual job. He must look after a strange ten-year-old girl who lives in a large apartment with blacked-out windows. The hero is tasked with tending the girl's dentures, which need to be changed several times a day. Every week the phone rings in the apartment, and a man's voice asks about the child's well-being. One day the voice tells the man that he must prepare the girl to leave the apartment. "Earwig" is the first English-language film by Lucile Hadžihalilović, starring Paul Hilton and Romola Garai.
