About the title
Two complete idiots, Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, try to catch up with the beautiful Mary Swanson to return a briefcase she left behind at the airport. Little do they know that Mary left it on purpose, as ransom arranged with her husband's kidnappers. In a car converted to look like a dog, the two dimwits cross America from Rhode Island to Colorado, where they find the enchanting Mary — with whom Lloyd has already fallen head over heels in love.
