About the title
The main talent of 21-year-old Cioma is always smiling and finding the positive side of life. That's not easy when you're a Jew living in Berlin in 1942. Yet the young man doesn't hide — on the contrary, he's always in plain sight, right in the thick of things. He lives in his parents' large apartment, which they fled the city leaving behind, and works at a factory. But he has a secret side job: commissioned by lawyer Franz Kaufmann, who is trying to save Jews from Germany, Cioma forges passports and in return receives ration cards. However, the hero doesn't know that he has long been under surveillance.
