About the title
The life of Michael Hartung, owner of an unprofitable video rental store, changes when an ambitious journalist presents him with the results of an investigation: many years ago, while working for the Reichsbahn railway, Michael allegedly organized the largest mass escape from the GDR. Tempted by a generous fee, Michael confirms the story, even though it's only partially true. Suddenly he becomes a national hero: interviews, talk shows, a speech in the Bundestag. But the brighter the glow of fame, the scarier the cost of exposure — and Michael is ready to keep lying so as not to lose public recognition, and above all, the love and respect of those close to him.
