About the title
Caspar Leinen is tasked with investigating the tangled case of an unremarkable mechanic, the Italian Fabrizio Collini, who apparently without any motive killed German businessman Hans Meyer before turning himself in to the police. The situation is complicated not only by Collini's silence and a more experienced lawyer vying for the role of protagonist, but also by Leinen's personal connection to the case: the victim's granddaughter, Johanna, was his teenage love. However, Leinen happens to stumble upon a clue that leads him to realize he has stumbled onto Germany's biggest legal scandal.
