About the title
David Guramovich, a professor specializing in Silver Age literature, accuses the mayor of a provincial town of stealing a large sum of money, but he himself becomes the subject of an embezzlement case and is placed under house arrest. Everyone around him advises him to settle the matter as quickly as possible, but David stubbornly decides to see it through to the end. He enters a fight for his ideals, his name, and at times for his very existence.
