About the title
Coraline Jones moves to a new home in Ashland, Oregon, together with her loving but constantly busy parents. Exploring the nearby woods, Coraline meets a stray black cat and a lonely boy who calls himself Wybie Lovat (in the Russian dub — Zack); the boy gives her a doll strikingly similar to Coraline herself, which he found at his grandmother's. Also living in the same house as Coraline are the elderly actresses Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, as well as a Russian émigré acrobat named Mr. Bobinsky. While exploring the apartment, Coraline finds a small bricked-up door. Remembering a dream in which the girl saw "a jumping mouse with button eyes," she goes to the door. Coraline then discovers a passage extending beyond this miniature door, which leads her to a house exactly like her own, in the "Other World."
