About the title
Muhabbat lives and works in a grocery store on the outskirts of Moscow. There are many such stores in Moscow's residential districts — tiny spaces tucked away in the basements of concrete apartment blocks. Most of the people working there are migrants. Like many of them, Muhabbat is enslaved. She has no money and no documents, and nowhere to run. Overcoming despair and fear, Muhabbat breaks free. But to get back the one thing most precious to her, she'll have to travel a long road full of pain, compromises, and loss.
