About the title
The events take place in the Polish village of Lipce at the end of the 19th century. The narrative is divided into four parts, according to the seasons. Young peasant girl Jagna is modest, talented, and beautiful. She is in love with Antek Boryna, the son of Maciej, the richest peasant in the village. However, Antek already has a wife who is not willing to tolerate her husband's infidelity. When Maciej, already twice widowed, decides to marry the young beauty Jagna, promising a substantial dowry, the girl finds herself trapped between the conflicting desires and passions of Antek, Maciej, and other villagers. The film was made using hand-drawn animation, based on the novel "The Peasants" by Polish writer and Nobel laureate Władysław Reymont.
