About the title
June 1941. After a grand tour of Europe, illusionist Yakov Ottel and his wife Sofia arrive in the city of Orsha, Byelorussian SSR, to perform for the local public. Right during the concert, the Germans capture the city, and fate separates the magician from his wife. Rumors about the Jewish illusionist quickly spread through the city, reaching even German officer Christoph Neumann, who wants to find the famous magician and learn the secret of his "Black Powder" trick. Yakov will have to endure many trials and face death itself in order to save his wife.
