February 1934. Completing the Northern Sea Route in a single navigation season was an ambitious goal of enormous importance for the USSR. Many considered the endeavor pointless and risky. Young and daring polar explorers led by Otto Schmidt sincerely believed that aboard the steamship Chelyuskin they would accomplish their mission. But great ideas turned into great tragedy — the ship was crushed by ice and sank. Now, in the harsh conditions of the Arctic, the "Chelyuskinites" must fight for their lives every minute.
