World War II. US Air Force bombardier John Yossarian desperately tries to get certified as insane so he no longer has to fly combat missions. However, according to a regulation known as Catch-22, if a pilot claims to be insane, that in itself proves he is sane. Yossarian starts devising ways to outsmart the system, which only complicates an already difficult situation.
