About the title
Several stories from the lives of inmates at Carandiru, the largest prison in Brazil, located in São Paulo. The main character, a doctor, arrives to test the inmates for HIV and encounters the brutal order that reigns among them. The dramatic events culminate in the bloody riot of October 2, 1992, known as the Carandiru Massacre.
