About the series
In the 1950s, midwife Jennifer Lee (Jessica Raine) arrives in the poorest district of London, settles in Nonnatus House convent, and joins the nuns in tackling the East End's medical problems. In the everyday lives of midwives, patients, and their families, there are not only tragic, dramatic, and sometimes shocking moments, but comic ones as well.
