About the title
The events of the film take place in Chicago in 1969. Suburban housewife Joy finds herself in a serious situation — she has become pregnant, but the pregnancy poses grave risks to her health. Joy tries to get medical help, but public hospitals turn her away because abortion is illegal in the country. Looking for a way out of her situation, she finds an organization called "Jane," which secretly helps women gain access to safe abortions.
