About the title
Two brothers — the elder, Farukh, already a teenager, and the younger, Azamat, still a little boy — travel by narrow-gauge railway to their father. He had once abandoned their mother and now lives in a remote corner of Tajikistan. The boys are going to him because there is no one else left: their mother has died. The trip is arranged by the elder brother, who secretly hopes to get rid of his tiresome "little one." This is the young heroes' first journey on their own. They watch the world around them with fascination — the passing trains, the people in the windows, the surrounding landscapes.
