About the title
During a period of hardship, Marfa decides to return to her homeland — an island far from civilization in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where an old lighthouse stands. Almost at the same time as her arrival, a whale appears off the island's shores, inexplicably connected to the girl's life. For Marfa, the lighthouse and the old house are both a source of energy and a reminder of deep childhood wounds. The situation intensifies when, following Marfa and her son Timofei, her brother Ilya and her husband Oleg also arrive on the secluded island. Tension mounts, and Marfa has to look anew at the events of past years in order to avert an impending tragedy.
