About the title
A teenage girl named Shawna, embarrassed by her very dark skin, thought this summer in New Orleans would be as boring as all the ones before it. But one night, walking home from a party, she is attacked by a homeless vampire. Her best friend Pedro doesn't believe such creatures exist, but when Shawna's mother turns into a vampire and burns up in the sunlight, he decides to join his friend in fighting the unexpected threat. Enlisting the help of the founder of a vampire book club and Chris, a tall, handsome guy Shawna really likes, the kids set out to save the city from an invasion of terrifying creatures.
