About the title
Philippe Abrams, the head of a post office in Salon-de-Provence in the south of France, does everything he can to get transferred to Cassis, a heavenly spot near Marseille. But all his efforts and dreams fall apart when, for a minor professional infraction, he receives a disciplinary transfer for two years to Bergues in the North, near Dunkirk. For people from the south of France, full of stereotypes, the North is a nightmare — a polar region inhabited by crude creatures who speak an incomprehensible language. To his great astonishment, Philippe Abrams discovers there a charming place, a warm-hearted team, hospitable people, and makes new friends.
