About the title
Nothing like this has happened yet, but it will! Very soon! Parents will lose their jobs, and children, spiraling out of control, will unleash terror and a mass boycott against adults. The response: "Battle Royale" — a government-sanctioned brutal game in which unruly schoolchildren are forced to take part at gunpoint of army rifles. On a deserted island, 42 teenagers will ruthlessly wipe each other out over 3 days to win. Only one player is allowed to return to the mainland alive. The imperturbable overseer of this sinister game is a schoolteacher named Kitano. The actor who plays him — the world-famous cult actor and director Takeshi Kitano — lent the character his own name. Blood flows like a river, but Teacher Kitano guarantees not only that the rules of the game will be observed, but also their conventionality. The young heroes die exactly as in a computer "shooter." Only the film's moral isn't virtual — from a mad electronic future, it speaks directly to today.
