About the title
A drama based on Oliver Sacks' memoir. Doctor Malcolm Sayer, a shy physician and scientist, uses experimental drugs to "awaken" immobilized victims of a rare disease. Leonard was the first patient to receive this untested treatment. His awakening, filled with awe, fear and enthusiasm, brings about something like a second birth for Sayer himself, as the patient discovers the simple joys of life for both himself and the doctor. Inspired by Leonard's miraculous recovery, Sayer gives the medicine to other patients.
