About the series
An adaptation of the novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer, starring "The Newsroom" star Jeff Daniels. "American Rust" immerses viewers in the hard daily life of a small town in Pennsylvania located in the so-called Rust Belt. From the industrial revolution up until the 1970s, various heavy industries thrived here, but today the region is in decline. The story centers on police chief Del Harris, who investigates a murder while also trying to save his girlfriend's son from prison. The series was written and executive-produced by Dan Futterman ("Foxcatcher," "Capote").
