About the title
Marcus Crassus, one of Caesar's generals, was a talented commander and the conqueror of the legendary Spartacus. But, having fallen out of favor, he was sent by imperial order as governor to a remote northern province of the vast Roman Empire. The embittered Crassus vented his anger on the local inhabitants, killing common people and destroying their homes. His favorite pastime was gladiatorial combat. One day Crassus brutally kills the mother of twelve-year-old Sirena and takes her older sister into slavery.
