About the title
Mary Horowitz is a well-read and intelligent woman — and how could she not be, since she works composing crossword puzzles. But erudition alone isn't enough for a happy life. Mary has a problem: she doesn't know how to get along with people and sometimes can't tell an obvious lie from the truth, which constantly lands her in awkward situations she has to find her way out of. One day, after seeing cameraman Steve, Mary convinces herself that this man was sent to her by fate. The fact that Steve pays no attention whatsoever to his admirer doesn't bother her. She's certain that you have to fight for love to the very end, and decides to pursue Steve until he changes his opinion of her.
