About the series
Young unemployed gaming addict Ryohei Arisu quarrels with his father and older brother once again and leaves home. He meets up with two close friends — one skipping work, the other recently fired — in the Shibuya district, where the trio sees a strange firework display in the sky, after which a new reality engulfs them. The friends find themselves in a deserted version of Tokyo and discover that they must now take part in brutal survival games; successfully completing one earns them a visa valid for a few days. Losers face death, those who drop out of a game face death, and those who refuse to renew their visas also face instant death from a laser beam from the sky.
