About the title
1909. A Danish expedition to Greenland led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen attempts to disprove the U.S. government's claim that Greenland is divided into two parts, on the basis of which the Americans lay claim to its northeastern region. Leaving the rest of the crew aboard the ship, Mikkelsen and Iver Iversen set off across the ice by sled. Having confirmed that Greenland is a single island, the men must return to the ship, but this proves far from simple. Hungry and running out of strength, they survive a polar bear attack, only to discover that the ship has been crushed by the ice.
