About the series
England, early 18th century. Butcher's son Dick Turpin doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps and cut up animal carcasses; he accidentally kills Tom King, the leader of a gang from Essex, and becomes the leader of the highwaymen. Turpin is a poor shot and swordsman, but he is eloquent, loves dressing fashionably, enjoys knitting, is vegan, wears outlandish costumes, and wants to become the Robin Hood of his time — robbing the rich and giving treasure to the poor. The outlaw tries to resolve every conflict through negotiation, has no intention of hurting anyone, and only maims his opponents by accident. Dick's gang includes the resolute Nell, the cowardly Afro-Briton Honesty, and the burly Moose (Mark Wootton). At first, no one takes the motley crew seriously, and the Essex gang endlessly fools around and stumbles into the silliest schemes thanks to Turpin's absurd pranks.
