About the series
1922. Count Alexander Rostov is put on trial for a poem he wrote long ago. Instead of the death penalty, he is sent into an extremely unusual exile - the Metropol Hotel, which he is forbidden to leave. The owner of a large estate who has never worked a day in his life, Count Rostov must adapt and survive in his new circumstances, witnessing the most terrifying, pivotal events of Russian history. Gradually, Rostov comes to realize that a gentleman never stops being one.
