About the title
The film is based on Charles Dickens's novella A Christmas Carol. It is a Victorian morality tale about old, embittered miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who over the course of a single night undergoes a deep and cleansing ordeal. Mr. Scrooge is a financier and moneylender who has devoted his whole life to amassing wealth. He despises everything but money, including friendship, love, and Christmas.
